History of Daytona Beach
Daytona Beach was originally settled by the Timucuan Indians. The area was later visited by Spanish explorers, and in the early 1800s, it became a popular resort destination for wealthy northerners.
In the early 1900s, Daytona Beach was home to a thriving African American community. However, the city’s growth was largely segregated, with black residents living in the west side of the city and white residents living in the east side.
